| Questions: When do you think your child is old enough to have a cell phone? I ask because my daughter (9yrs) is begging me for a cellphone. I am not in a hurry to give her one. I feel she can talk on a land line and she has a computer & nintendo DS she can txt from. It boggles my mind when I see a 12yr old with a 2-3 hundred dollar smart/touch cellphone and no job. Maybe that's just me. I have a job and could afford an expensive phone, but why should i spend extra for a phone when its not necessary. I'm frugal! I need reasoning before I purchase. |

When your child is old enough to pay for it and sign the contract! Few people actually need a cel phone or any kind of phone these days. Stick with just the internet and be happy and relaxed. |
| Your daughter is too lucky to have a parent like you. But you know what, you have to teach your kid how to spend well and how to give importance to every cent you have. And by that, tell her to be contented with the stuffs that she have at the moment. By the time that she is responsible enough in a sense that she can pay for the bills already, then that is the time that she can have a mobile phone. |
| The only reason I could see you wanting to furnish your daughter with a cell phone is if you want to be able to contact her when she is away from you, in which case you could easily give her a 20 dollar phone or something similar. All it needs to be is a cell phone, and if it is sturdy, then its better. Definitely I would not recommend giving her a hundred dollar phone. |
